Our history

Cananó embodies the vibrant continuity of family tradition in Alentejo, where Manuel Freire Vieira, affectionately known as Cananó, transmitted with passion and dedication the ancestral legacy of carved wine production to his son José and grandson João.

The story of Cananó is more than a narrative about winemaking; It is a testament to family perseverance and craftsmanship that spans centuries. In our modest winery, where tradition blends with careful innovation, each step of the carved wine production process is executed with precision and reverence. From the meticulous harvesting of local grapes to the delicate process in our butchers, each gesture reflects the deep respect for the land and the region's cultural heritage.
